Case History Report

Patient Information:

  • Age: 53 years

  • Gender: Male

  • Occupation: Driver by profession

  • Condition: Lumbar Disc Prolapse with Associated Kidney and Bladder Stones

Presenting Complaints:

A 53-year-old male driver presented with chronic low back pain due to a diagnosed lumbar disc prolapse. His condition caused persistent discomfort and significantly affected his ability to perform daily tasks, especially prolonged sitting and driving.

Medical History and Diagnosis:

The patient underwent a 21-day course of Ayurvedic treatment for lumbar disc prolapse. However, on the 13th day of treatment, he developed severe abdominal pain, prompting further investigation. An ultrasound scan of the abdomen revealed the presence of multiple stones in both the kidneys and bladder, which had not been previously diagnosed.

Response to Ayurvedic Treatment at Indian Ayurvedic Hospital, Coimbatore:

  • Day 13: The patient developed acute abdominal discomfort, leading to an ultrasound examination, which confirmed multiple kidney and bladder stones.

  • Day 14: The patient passed numerous stones naturally, without any pain, making an exact count difficult.

  • Day 21 (End of Treatment):

    • Complete resolution of back pain, with full restoration of mobility.

    • No further abdominal pain or symptoms of urinary discomfort.

Discussion:

This case demonstrates the dual therapeutic impact of Ayurvedic treatment. While the primary intervention was aimed at treating low back pain due to disc prolapse, the treatment also led to the painless expulsion of multiple kidney and bladder stones, an uncommon outcome in conventional medicine. The fact that the patient experienced no pain during stone passage is particularly noteworthy, as stone expulsion is typically associated with severe discomfort.

Conclusion:

This case highlights the efficacy of Ayurvedic treatment in achieving complete recovery from lumbar disc prolapsewhile also facilitating the spontaneous and painless passage of multiple kidney and bladder stones. The patient experienced full relief from both conditions within 21 days, demonstrating Ayurveda’s potential as a comprehensive and definitive treatment approach for complex musculoskeletal and renal conditions.
